A helicopter under contract to the DLNR Division of Forestry and Wildlife crashed on Tuesday in a gully near Sacred Falls.
A state employee who was among the passengers said the chopper nearly made it to a clearing but ended up crashing into trees.
A Federal Aviation Administration spokesman identified the helicopter as a Hughes 369E registered to Kailua- Kona-based K&S Helicopters Inc., which operates Paradise Helicopters with locations across the state.
