I am so pleased that Hawaii is moving toward all-mail voting (“Hawaii moves toward all-mail voting,” Star-Advertiser, April 24).
As a Hawaii resident attending college in California, I voted by absentee ballot in the recent special election for the City Council District 4 seat. In reading the Star-Advertiser reports of the election results, I was pleased to note that the voter turnout for this special election was unusually high, 49.3% of the 69,031 official District 4 voters. As our new generations rely more and more on convenience, I personally believe that transitioning to all-mail voting is the way to go. It fosters greater participation, and, in effect, gives more people a voice.
I hope Hawaii will continue to move toward voting by mail, which may have contributed to the high voter turnout in this special election.
