I find it amazing that there are still defenders of the Jones Act. There was no compelling argument in the recent editorial for the continuing of the Act (“Jones Act has benefits for isles,” Our View, Star-Advertiser, April 29). I think our Congress members get paid off — campaign donations is the more polite term. I remember former U.S. Rep. Neil Abercrombie telling us that pirates will get us if we stop the Jones Act. Well, the pirates are off Somalia and we still have the Coast Guard — so we don’t have to worry about anything other than lowering prices.

We did stop killing whales for oil, so let’s keep on evolving and get rid of this antiquated Jones Act.
