Oahu Festival, Spring Street Jam, Leahi Festival, Waikiki Street Jam, Waikiki Fall Festival, Waikiki Bazaar Festival, and Kalakaua Festival. How many jams and festivals do we need in Waikiki?
There are more people who suffer from the road closures than the few who benefit from these events. Traveling through Waikiki and the surrounding areas doubles the traveling time during the road closure. Sitting in bumper-to-bumper traffic wastes the non-participants’ time and gas. Visitors not aware of the traffic jam could miss their flight, dinner reservations or other commitments.
These are obviously for-profit events because everything at the booths is for sale. Move these events to a large parking lot such as the Magic Island parking lot. There’s a lot of free parking for those who want to patronize the event — and maybe more local people would attend if it was at Magic Island.
