Ed Ige’s letter is fundamentally flawed (“Hate Trump Syndrome afflicting Democrats,” Star-Advertiser, Letters, May 7). Whether one loves or hates President Donald Trump is far less relevant than his attacks eroding democracy in America. That is a major reason why many Democrats, as well as a growing number of Republicans and independents, are increasingly concerned.
There is also increasing concern because during Trump’s presidency hate crimes have increased substantially. The real hate syndrome is generated by Trump’s racist and xenophobic rhetoric. What Ige identifies as “controlled chaos” is actually Trump’s lack of control that creates chaos, a phenomenon thoroughly documented in books by reputable journalists like David Cay Johnston, Michael Wolff and Bob Woodward.
Moreover, something else may be out of control soon, considering Trump’s careless threats against Iran, Venezuela and North Korea. War with any of those countries would likely also draw in China and Russia.
