The news is bad enough already. The Federal Transit Administration will not fork over federal money unless the city makes up-front payments, which are not yet budgeted. Where to get the money from? I wonder.
But Richard Borreca pointed out another little problem (“Oahu’s runaway train taking with it runaway budget, to build now and to operate later,” Star-Advertiser, On Politics, May 12): How will we get the money to finance the maintenance and operation of the rail line once it is up and running?
As the sad saying goes, “You have to know when to fold ‘em.” Can’t we just scrap this entire ill-fated project before we end up throwing away more good money after bad?
