Excuse me if things appear a bit wacky with the overly religious mindset that’s becoming a reality in our county.
Alabama passes the most stringent abortion law recognizing the rights of the unborn (“Governor signs near-total abortion ban,” Star-Advertiser, May 16). Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey said that “every life is precious and … every life is a sacred gift from God.”
OK, got that. But wait: We have the anti-vaccination folks who claim a religious exemption and don’t vaccinate their kids, putting them, us, and the entire community at risk of catching diseases we thought were wiped out decades ago (“Possible abuse of religious vaccine exemption makes me sick,” Star-Advertiser, Island Voices, May 16).
Where are the rights of the now-born child to live a full and healthy life? The hypocrisy here is mind-blowing.
Protect and recognize the life of the unborn — a gift from God. But then to use faith in God, or other religious ideology, to disregard the health risks or possible death from not vaccinating your child? That’s nuts.
