I’ve lived in Honolulu long enough to remember Mayor Frank Fasi. He knew that his job was to create a better living experience for the residents of his county.
That included establishing the garbage and bulky-item pickup we now enjoy.
When the private bus system went on strike, Fasi brought in buses and established the best bus system in the United States.
He also fought to build an at-grade rail system that would have been paid for by the federal government.
He instituted the visionary neighborhood board system to give communities the ability to communicate with the city.
What a change to today’s Mayor Kirk Caldwell.
Take away our bulky-item pickup, give us the most expensive rail construction in the world, raise taxes and fees that increase the cost of living.
