Sherwood Forest’s living and breathing trees are the homes to thousands of birds, including many kolea (golden plovers) that flew out April 24 to summer and nest in Alaska just as bulldozers arrived to destroy part of their winter territory. Kolea return to the same area year after year to winter.
Mayor Kirk Caldwell promised to plant another 100,000 trees. That doesn’t address the forest being destroyed and the bird population therefore displaced, or the increased traffic congestion or disruption to lives of the local population in Waimanalo.
