The letter by Ben McGowan is based on a fantasy view of Donald Trump (“Thankful for Trump’s strong leadership,” Star-Advertiser, June 11).
In reality, Trump goes around the world embarrassing the United States by meeting with authentic leaders who know that his election was aided and abetted by a foreign power, and that except for a quirk in the laws he would be indicted for his criminal offenses. Trump’s only way of coping with this is to throw insults that would be derided as childish for a fifth grader.
His policies are reversing action to prevent global warming; he consistently appoints agency heads who have to resign because of their corruption; and he threatens to start wars around the world.
The only people really “proud” of Donald Trump are authoritarian dictators like Vladimir Putin who want to eliminate an independent judiciary and a free press, and admire Trump’s attempts to do the same in the U.S. We can only pray that he does not succeed.
