The war on drugs has been waged for almost 170 years here in the United States. According to “60 Minutes” on CBS, we had 72,000 overdose deaths in 2017, 49,000 overdose deaths in 2018, and overall, at least 500,000 overdose deaths in the last 20 years. As far as the number of casualties, this is much worse than many of our military wars.
I think the time has come for law enforcement to focus its resources on hard, addictive drugs, such as opioids and methamphetamine.
I think marijuana should be removed from the federal Schedule 1 and legalized for people over 21 years of age.
My concept of justice does not permit me to advocate for the incarceration of marijuana users, when many of the anti- marijuana laws are based on lies.
Also, I think employers should have the right to regulate drug use by their employees. If the employees do not like the policy, they can usually find another job.
