By abandoning Spalding House, for whatever reason, the Honolulu Museum of Art trustees are denying the experience of surroundings in enjoying and appreciating art (“Honolulu Museum of Art puts historic Spalding House in Makiki up for sale,” Star-Advertiser, July 17).
In an effort to deliver “quality art exhibitions,” they may be following the model established by world-class museums in New York and Paris. However, the environment, gardens, views and ambience at the Spalding House museum are treasures unique and unmatched worldwide in providing a quality art experience. The decision should be reconsidered.
