What is Gov. David Ige waiting for? If he hasn’t figured it out yet, the activists do not want the Thirty Meter Telescope to be built. Negotiating is pointless unless he cancels the project. He is going to have to go through the activists if he wants to build the TMT.
The longer he delays action, the more determined the activists become and the greater their support base grows. He tried the nice-guy approach but that made him look weak and incompetent. He tried to bully the activists, making wild claims, but that only angered the activists and made him look desperate.
Whether he waits another day, week, month or year, it is inevitable: Eventually he is going to have to go through the activists to get the TMT built. They aren’t going away anytime soon. Time to act, now!
