Anyone who expected a fire-and-brimstone condemnation of the executive branch from former Special Counsel Robert Mueller on July 24 was guaranteed to be disappointed.
What we got, instead, was a restatement of the information contained in the report produced by his team. No new earth-shattering pronouncements.
But the critical takeaway from the testimonies might be that Mueller never retracted or changed anything in his report. In fact, among other serious issues, Mueller re-emphasized the continuing threat of Russian meddling in our elections:
“Over the course of my career, I’ve seen a number of challenges to our democracy. The Russian government’s (ongoing) effort to interfere in our election is among the most serious. As I said on May 29, this deserves the attention of every American.”
This is a DEFCON 1 statement from a man who does not use hyperbole. We all need to pay attention. Chilling.
