Why are more studies needed for Ala Moana Regional Park? An ideal third DEIS (draft environmental impact statement) would reflect consideration and analysis of the public’s comments, present alternatives to the plans, and give people 45 days to comment on them.
In reality, nearly a year after accepting DEIS comments and five months since the second DEIS comment deadline, the city has failed to send us promised required responses to our comments. The city, unchecked, will proceed to the final EIS (FEIS).
Once the FEIS is out, there will be no opportunity for public comment. The public has 60 days to sue the city to stop any undesired actions.
But the City Council can disapprove funding for executive projects.
Write or call the mayor and your City Council member and tell them, “Listen to the people. Stop wasting taxpayers’ dollars on new projects at Ala Moana — the People’s Park. Just keep it clean, keep it green. “
