What would James Madison have done 228 years ago if he was given a glimpse of his country in 2019?
Would he have continued to put pen to paper to write the Second Amendment or would he have blown out the candle and called it a night?
In fact, he should have lit a second candle and stayed up late to clarify a point that surprisingly would someday need it.
In expressing a belief that a well-regulated militia is needed to protect citizens from the oppression of a corrupt federal government and its army, Madison failed to comprehend that some would view this as an open invitation for armed citizens to oppress (and murder) each other.
The definition of a well-regulated militia was not explained in his document, but it is safe to assume that it did not include a small army of deranged people wanting to shoot up as many innocent people as possible.
Shame on the National Rifle Association, which corrupted the intent behind the Amendment, and shame on the politicians who continue to sell their office to the NRA.
