Your article discussing the economic impacts of the Thirty Meter Telescope impasse was quite an eye-opener (“Economic losses mount,” Star-Advertiser, Aug. 11). Media coverage for support of the TMT has been sorely lacking. We hear so much about why TMT should not be built on Mauna Kea and very little as to why it needs to be built.

I also would like to take this opportunity to commend and thank Kalepa Baybayan for his public stance in support of this project. It would be nice if other Hawaiian leaders would share their true feelings.
