One of the most inconsistent and confusing policies is the road markings on our streets.
In downtown Honolulu, the white strip is at least one car length from the crosswalk. But on other streets with multiple lanes, the white strip is about two feet from the crosswalk.
The other day I stopped because two other cars were stopped at a crosswalk. At that moment two other cars sped through, narrowly missing a couple. If the white line was at least a car’s length from the crosswalk, they would have had space and time to see the couple crossing.
