I strongly support the construction of the Thirty Meter Telescope on the island of Hawaii.
I feel this project honors the ancient people of Hawaii by continuing their exploration of the stars.
I am in the process of reading the environmental impact statement in order to understand the work that was done to address the cultural concerns of residents of the island. So far, I think concerns were addressed reasonably and as completely as possible.
To stop construction at this point not only presents a tremendous financial loss, but a philosophical one. The people of Hawaii became the greatest ocean-going explorers in history by looking to the stars.
In my opinion, to move this remarkable project to another location would bring tears to the eyes of our ancestors.
The TMT will be amazing and belongs in Hawaii — it is part of our legacy and history.
