The “Hurt Feelings Report” that turned up at Maui Community Correctional Center qualifies as a misguided juvenile joke, at best. The faux form, which includes fields for “whiner’s name,” “date feelings were hurt” and the like, offers: “We will make every reasonable effort to provide you with a ‘blankie,’ and a ‘binkie.’” Not funny.
Officials are investigating the origin of the “unauthorized and inappropriate literature.” It’s especially cringe-worthy given that the Department of Public Safety is still recovering from a March riot at the Maui jail, and grapples with long-standing concerns that include an alleged culture of retaliation and intimidation.
Incentivize organ donations
Hawaii ranked No. 2 on a list nobody wants to be on: Longest Wait Time for Organ Transplants. Only in Alabama is that wait time longer, according to the study by HealthTestingCenters.com.
There are lots of reasons, including cultural aversion among potential living donors to yielding an organ, as well as the difficulty of finding a genetic match among donor organs for Hawaii’s diverse patients.
Alabama has responded by enacting incentives for donors, such as paid leave. Something to think about.
