The upgrading of Ala Moana Park has already brought a pleasant surprise: more trees (“Caldwell gives update on park’s master plan,” Star-Advertiser, Sept. 6).
Kudos to the city for relocating coconut palms displaced by rail construction as well as dozens of additional trees along the main park drive and in other areas of the park. Trees provide a welcome part of the mix — open play fields, beach, picnic areas and spaces to hang out — that make Ala Moana the People’s Park.
Whether in our parks, streets, schools or private property, trees bring joy and innumerable benefits. In short, Honolulu is hot; trees are cool.
