We humans are slow learners. We have stomped all over this planet for some time, like a child in a mud puddle, as we proclaim we are improving the “human condition.” Later we discover we have soiled ourselves, killed a few creatures and poisoned a few cultures along the way.
It seems to be what we do best. Now we have gotten older and dirtier, and regret our childish ways.
Can we show that we can learn and grow up to be responsible Earthlings? I hope so. It is time to clean up our ways, not just on the mountain, but on the whole planet.
Science is required to do it properly, since we messed it up so badly.
It will be a challenge, greater than many we have faced.
If we can come together on the beauty of Mauna Kea, there is some hope for the planet.
