I learned on Hawaii Public Radio that Cokie Roberts died from breast cancer. It seems like I heard her voice just yesterday as she discussed the nuances of American politics and the state of our nation.
Cokie Roberts brought clarity and insight into every story she covered.
She was a voice of reason and understanding in a world of American politics that has grown more chaotic, mean-spirited and dysfunctional.
She was like a wise friend whom I never met who came through with perceptive comments as I drove to work.
I will miss her voice, as the country she loved will, too.
Kirk Caldwell
Mayor, City and County of Honolulu
