Cal Thomas is to be commended for a recent clear and cogent column (“All presidents need advisers who will disagree with them,” Star-Advertiser, Nov. 5).
Both the left and the right should be able to agree that a democratic republic cannot endure with an imperial president. Every once in a while, Thomas seems to realize he has supported the most imperial of all presidents, one who surrounds himself with only those who fervently support his views, and believes he can do anything he wants regardless of the Constitution.
