Destiny Castro and Kali Benavente led Chaminade with 10 points each in the women’s basketball team’s loss to the University of Sioux Falls, 75-41 Thursday at St. Francis Gym in the annual Malika Sports Oahu Thanksgiving Classic.
Kaely Hummel led the Cougars (7-0) with 16 points, followed by Mariah Szymanski’s 12.
The Silverswords (0-4) finish the Classic today against Cal State San Marcos at 4:30 p.m. at St. Francis Gym.
Taylor Fritz commits to Hawaii Open
Taylor Fritz announced on Wednesday that he will play in the Hawaii Open tennis tournament set for Dec. 26-28 at the Stan Sheriff Center.
Fritz, 22, won his first ATP World Tour title this year at the Eastbourne International in June, when he beat Sam Querrey. He then became the youngest American to reach No. 25 in the ATP rankings since Andy Roddick in 2001.
He joins notables including Kei Nishikori, Maria Sharapova, Angelique Kerber and U.S. Open women’s champion Bianca Andreescu in this year’s Hawaii Open.
