Peter Jung and Jennifer Koga earned medalist honors in qualifying for the 112th Manoa Cup on Monday at Oahu Country Club,
Jung shot a 5-under-par 66 and will be the top seed in the 64-player Open division bracket in the state amateur match-play championship. Jung had just five pars on his scorecard with nine birdies and four bogeys.
AJ Teraoka, Remington Hirano and Isaiah Kanno finished a shot behind Jung. Past champions Matthew Ma (73), Andy Okita (73) and Brandan Kop (75) also qualified for match play.
Koga topped Women’s division qualifying with a 67, two shots clear of Raya Nakao, and will top the 16-player bracket. Koga carded seven birdies, including three in a row on holes 13 to 15.
The Manoa Cup returns after being canceled last year due to COVID-19, the first time the tournament wasn’t held since 1943.
Matches start today, with the 18-hole Women’s final scheduled for Friday morning and the 36-hole Open final on Saturday.
