Dishes that are aesthetically pleasing — and taste as good as they look — are all the rage right now. Here are some sweet and savory options whose “wow” factor will have you pausing to take photos to post on Instagram before you dig in.
Basalt
This avocado garden toast ($14) is one of the most popular dishes on Basalt’s breakfast menu. Numerous customers request this dish, especially since it’s only available until 2 p.m.
This stunning combo features grilled whole wheat bread topped with cherry tomatoes, microgreens, watermelon radish and pumpkin seeds. Basalt sous chef Mae Iokepa, who helped create the dish, wanted to capture the imagination of a secret garden. The tomatoes are marinated in an herb-lemon oil blend, and the dish also features a secret ingredient, according to Iokepa.

StripSteak Waikiki
Although it’s a contemporary American steakhouse, StripSteak Waikiki’s Royal Chilled Shellfish Tower ($145 petite, $275 grande) is a showstopper. Feast your eyes on this amazing assortment of dashi-poached shellfish, various sashimi, nigiri, makimono roll and Michael’s tuna tar-tare. The dashi poach is StripSteak Waikiki’s Japanese take on the shellfish, since dashi is a key component of Japanese cuisine, and poaching the shellfish in that kombu and bonito flake-infused broth helps give the fish a great flavor. The tower is also accompanied by yum yum sauce, cocktail sauce and lilikoi mignonette. Be ‘shellfish,’ we’re not judging.
