Box jellyfish advisory posted for Waikiki Beach, Pokai Bay

Officials have issued a box jellyfish advisory today after lifeguards observed the invertebrates on the shorelines of Waikiki Beach and Pokai Bay.

Honolulu lifeguards have posted warning signs and advised the public to use extreme caution when entering the water as the jellyfish can cause painful stings and allergic reactions.

Box jellyfish usually arrive near shore approximately 8 to 10 days after a full moon.
