Moped rider, 27, injured after hit-and-run near McCully

A 27-year-old man is in serious condition today following a hit-and-run collision that ejected him from his moped and onto the roadway in the area of South King Street in Honolulu.

According to Honolulu police, the collision happened at about 3:33 a.m. today when the man was riding a moped eastbound on South King Street near the intersection of McCully Street.

He was reportedly broadsided by an unidentified motorist who attempted to make a left turn onto McCully Street from South King Street and continued heading northbound on McCully Street without stopping to render aid or provide information, police said.

The moped rider, who was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision, was ejected onto the roadway.

Honolulu Emergency Medical Services transported him to an area hospital in serious condition.

Police reported it was unknown at this time whether speed, drugs or alcohol were contributing factors in the collision.
