Woman injured in Waianae machete attack, suspect sought

A woman was injured in a machete attack Wednesday night in Waianae, and Honolulu police are searching for the suspect.

The Honolulu Police Department said officers responded at about 10:49 p.m. Wednesday to a reported assault near Guardrails off Farrington Highway in Waianae.

Police said a 36-year-old woman was injured during an altercation with a male suspect who was armed with a machete.

The victim was able to disarm the suspect before he fled the area, according to police.

Emergency responders transported the woman to a hospital for treatment. Police did not immediately release details about the extent of her injuries.

Witnesses described the suspect as a local man between 40 and 50 years old, about 5 feet 8 inches tall, with a medium build.

The investigation remains ongoing.
