7-foot center from USC transfers to UH

Davis Rozitis, a 7-foot, 215-pound center who played for USC last season, has transferred to the University of Hawaii, UH basketball coach Gib Arnold said.

Arnold recruited and coached Rozitis, a native of Cesis, Latvia, while he was an assistant coach for the Trojans.

Per NCAA transfer rules, Rozitis will sit out the 2010-11 season and will have three years of eligibility remaining.

"Davis is a very skilled big man whose best basketball is still ahead of him," Arnold said in a UH press release.

"At USC he played behind two future NBA players and didn’t get much playing time. However, he continued to work hard and develop. With time and an aggressive strength program, Davis has the potential to have a great career here at UH. He’s a super kid and a bright student, I’m glad he will be with us for the next four years."

Rozitis appeared in eight games for the Trojans last season, scoring two points and grabbing seven rebounds in 28 total minutes of action.

Prior to arriving at USC, he was a member of the Latvian U20 national team.
