Woman killed in Kalihi pedestrian accident identified

A 53-year-old woman was fatally injured this morning when a pickup truck hit her as she was crossing Kamehameha Highway in a crosswalk near Middle Street in Kalihi, police said.

The Medical Examiner’s Office identified her as Evelyn Ogata-Rose of Wahiawa.

The accident happened near the GasPro facility on Kamehameha Highway near Middle Street at about 5:45 a.m.

Police said a white 1996 Toyota pickup was traveling west on Dillingham Boulevard, approaching where the road becomes Kamehameha Highway, when it hit the woman. The woman was in a crosswalk and apparently had the walk signal, police said.

An Emergency Medical Services supervisor said the woman went to a hospital in “extremely critical” condition.

Police said she died at the Queen’s Medical Center.

The 44-year-old driver of the pickup truck remained on scene and submitted to a blood test, police said.

Police it does not appear that speeding, alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash.

It was the 18th traffic fatality this year on Oahu, compared to 17 at the same time last year.
