Michelle Wie fired a 4-under 68 today, moving up the leaderboard at the Honda LPGA Thailand at Siam Country Club in Chonburi.
Wie, who opened with a 75 in her first tournament of 2012, put together a solid back nine today, carding four birdies. She is 1 under for the tournament, good for a tie for 26th place as this edition of the Star-Advertiser went to press.
Several players were still on the course, including Caroline Hedwall of Sweden, who was 7 under for the day and the tournament. She led Yani Tseng of Taiwan and Jiyai Shin of South Korea by one stroke.
Tseng, the defending champion, shot a 65, including an eagle on the 18th.
Wie, a Punahou School alum, started the day with six straight pars before a birdie on No. 7. She gave that stroke back at No. 8 and made the turn at even par for the round.
She started the back nine with a birdie at 10 and followed that up with birdies on Nos. 13, 15 and 18.
That was in stark contrast to her wildly inconsistent opening round.
On Thursday, Wie had six bogeys and three birdies, finishing with a 75 that put her in 55th place out of 70 golfers.
First-round leader Ai Miyazato of Japan was even through six holes today and was two shots behind Hedwall.
