Two men arrested following beating of taxi driver

A taxi driver reported he was beaten and robbed in Kaneohe by two men whom he picked up on Keeaumoku Street early Sunday morning, police said.

The cabbie said he picked up the two men on Keeaumoku and drove them to a Nahewai Street address at about 2:24 a.m., police said. Once at the destination, the passengers refused to pay their fare. When the driver tried to hold the suspects until police arrived, the two men allegedly beat the driver and fled the area.

Arriving officers located one of the suspects, 21, at a Nahewai address and the victim subsequently identified him as one of his attackers. The other suspect, 22, a roommate of the man in custody, was located a short time later and also identified by the taxi driver, police said.

Both suspects were being held pending charges of second-degree robbery.
