A Wahiawa physician on trial for allegedly trying to arrange the murder of his ex-girlfriend was convicted Tuesday of a petty misdemeanor.

A state jury found Dennis Ayon guilty of criminal solicitation of third-degree assault. Ayon had been charged with solicitation of murder.

The assault offense is a petty misdemeanor with a 30-day jail term. Ayon has already served that time, and more, since his arrest in November 2010.

Police arrested Ayon on Nov. 8, 2010 after one his patients told police that he had asked her to kill his ex-girlfriend, with whom he had a 4-year-old son. Ayon was 48 at the time of his arrest.

The patient, Linda Moore, had testified in 2010 that Ayon asked her on Nov. 6, during a meeting in his Kilani Avenue office, to kill his ex-girlfriend. Moore instead called the woman and told her of Ayon’s intentions.

Moore said Ayon blamed the ex-girlfriend for cutting him off from his son and for the loss of his house and car.
