Big Island teen killed crossing highway
A Hawaii island teen died Friday night when he was struck in a crosswalk by a semi-trailer truck while crossing the intersection of Highway 19 and Paauilo Makai Road, county fire officials said.
Police have identified him as John Deluz, 17, of Paauilo.
Crews arrived just before 5:45 p.m. to find Deluz on the side of the road with multiple injuries and no sign of life.
Hawaii News Now reports that Deluz got off a Hele-On bus on the mauka side of Route 19 and ran in front of the bus and into the road. He was hit by a 1988 International semi tractor-trailer headed east, police said. He was taken to North Hawaii Community Hospital in critical condition and pronounced dead at 6:37 p.m. The 22-year-old driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured.
Police seek man who robbed Kailua bank
Honolulu police are looking for a man who robbed the Hawaii National Bank in Kailua on Friday.
Police said the man walked into the bank at 21 Aulike St. just before 4:30 p.m. and got away with an undisclosed amount of money. It was unclear if he was armed.
