“FLOWERS”?BLOOMS AT KUMU KAHUA: Hawaii playwright Lee Cataluna got a congratulatory hug from island filmmaker Michael Ng at the opening-night reception for her new play, “Flowers of Hawaii,” Nov. 7 at Kumu Kahua. Cataluna had watched the sold-out crowd laugh heartily at all the right moments throughout the beautifully paced 90-minute production. She’d seen them get surprised, shocked and misty at all the right moments as well. “Flowers” continues through Dec. 8 but don’t wait to buy tickets if you want to see it. Call 536-4441 or go to www.kumukahua.org.

LUXURY?ROW’S “MODERN?MASTERS”: Artist/recycler Douglas Britt, left, shared the stories behind two of his creations, “Water Ski Ship” and “Paipo Board,” with art fans Marisa and Patrick Gey at Hugo Boss. Britt builds his creations out of “found objects” — cast-off items he finds on beaches and in junk stores then recycles into collectible art.
