Army soldiers based in Hawaii, Alaska, South Korea and other areas will begin their quest Saturday to earn the prestigious Expert Field Medical Badge. On Thursday a few of those who will endure the arduous multipart exam got some practice in at Schofield Barracks. Evaluator Sgt. Jerry Muniz, left, and badge-seeker Staff Sgt. Vance Maxey, right, tended to the “casualty,” played by Spc. Steven Yoshida. Maxey had evacuated Yoshida from an area where he was “shot,” and Muniz helped Maxey roll Yoshida onto a stretcher. Muniz later observed Maxey as he tended to Yoshida’s simulated wounds. The test also includes a written portion and a timed 12-mile foot march.
