Regal Entertainment Group will add to moviegoers’ options by opening a 12-screen theater at Kapolei Commons, just a block away from a 16-screen theater run by rival Consolidated Theatres.
Regal Cinemas plans to open the 52,000-square-foot theater next year, featuring electric reclining seats and upgraded menu options, according to a statement.
Kapolei Commons, at 4450 Kapolei Parkway, opened in 2009, and its tenant mix includes Target, Ross, Sports Authority and the recently opened Pier 1 Imports.
Consolidated Theatres’ Kapolei 16 is in the Kapolei Entertainment Center at 890 Kamokila Blvd. and is an older theater in need of updating, according to several online reviews.
"Regal is thrilled to be adding another fantastic entertainment option for our loyal customers on the island of Oahu," said Jerry Grewe, vice president of real estate for Regal Entertainment Group, in a news release. "Regal Kapolei Stadium 12 will feature a new level of amenities for moviegoing."
Kapolei Commons is a joint development by The MacNaughton Group, Kobayashi Group and Craig Realty Group.
"We are excited Regal Cinemas has chosen Kapolei Commons," said Duncan MacNaughton, chairman of The MacNaughton Group, in the news release.
Kobayashi Group founder Bert A. Kobayashi Sr. added, "Kobayashi Group is proud to bring the residents of Kapolei a new, state-of-the-art entertainment complex."
Regal operates nine cinemas in Hawaii and about 570 in the U.S.
