Master navigator Chadd Paishon, executive director of Na Kalai Wa'a, and kumu hula Pua Case gave a presentation on way-finding at the 2011 Waimea Ocean Film Festival. The photos displayed were taken by Nicholas DeVore III of the Hokule'a's historic 1976 voyage to Tahiti. DeVore, a National Geographic photographer, was on that voyage. Festival founder Tania Howard met with his widow and enlisted her help in pulling 60 images, never seen before, for this exhibit.
