Despite a victim’s reluctance to press charges, prosecutors are formally accusing a 33-year-old Wahiawa man of shooting a Mililani man in the chest last weekend.
Prosecutors charged Mack Fesagiga-McCormick on Wednesday with second-degree attempted murder, a weapons violation and being a felon in possession of a firearm. His bail was set at $500,000.
Because the 35-year-old victim declined to press charges, police arrested the suspect at the Wahiawa police station at 12:05 a.m. Tuesday only on suspicion of a weapons violation and of being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Police said the victim reported being shot in the chest by a man with a silver semiautomatic handgun about 1:15 a.m. Saturday. Paramedics took him from Kealakaa Street and Lanikuhana Avenue to a hospital in serious condition, Emergency Medical Services reported.
Fesagiga-McCormick’s record includes two felony convictions, beginning in 2001, for breaking into a car.
