A preliminary hearing for the suspect in a seven-year-old San Diego cold murder case is scheduled for March 10 in San Diego, the District Attorney’s Office reported Wednesday.

Anthony Simoneau, 46,  was extradited to San Diego from Honolulu on Sept. 25 to face charges that he killed his Japanese-born wife, Fumiko Ogawa in 2007.

A status conference was held Wednesday in San Diego Superior Court, according to the San Diego District Attorney’s office. The case was assigned to San Diego Superior Court Judge Daniel Goldstein. 

Simoneau was arrested Sept. 4 on Sand Island Access Road on an extradition warrant.

He pleaded not guilty in a San Diego courtroom on Sept. 29 to killing Ogawa, 41. 

He faces a maximum of 25 years to life in prison if convicted of murder.

Ogawa’s skeletal remains were found in Anza-Borrego Desert State Park by a couple traveling along a desert road to the Bow Willow Campground on Jan. 20, 2007, but was not identified until a DNA match in 2011.

Simoneau never reported his wife missing, according to authorities.

Simoneau filed to divorce his wife in 2002 but withdrew the court papers when she got an inheritance from relatives in Japan. 

Simoneau fled to Hawaii, where he was arrested and convicted of shoplifting in 2011.
