Pilot killed in space tourism crash identified

MOJAVE, Calif. >>  The test pilot who survived the crash of Virgin Galactic’s prototype space tourism rocket in the California desert has been identified.

Kern County Sheriff Donny Youngblood says the pilot is 43-year-old Peter Siebold and he is to undergo surgery. There were no other details on his condition Saturday.

The other pilot in Friday’s ill-fated test flight of Virgin Galactic’s SpaceShipTwo was killed. He has been identified as 39-year-old Michael Alsbury.

A National Transportation Safety Board team arrived in Mojave, California, early Saturday to begin investigating.
