Heavy rains on Oahu Wednesday left some residents and commuters to contend with flood waters as city crews and police scrambled to address public safety concerns.

The Honolulu Fire Department is assisting at homes across Oahu with flooding. The fire department made water evacuations in Wahiawa on Karsten Drive, Waimanalo on Ala Koa Street and Mokulea on Farrington Highway Wednesday afternoon.

The city reported flooding at various intersections, including Dillingham at Alakawa, and Ahua at Kikihau. The signal lights were out at Kapiolani Boulevard and Cooke Street. 

Honolulu police are checking a reported mudslide on the H-1 freeway and a rock and mud pile on Kapaa Quarry Road. HPD is also assisting motorists stalled in water ponding on roadways.   

National Weather Service officials said rain gauges recorded rainfall of 3 inches per hour near Waimanalo at 4:24 p.m. A flash flood warning issued Wednesday afternoon was canceled shortly before 7 p.m.

An earlier flood advisory for Molokai was canceled.

A flash flood watch for all islands issued Tuesday is in effect through 6 p.m. Thursday.
