The Navy has identified the 21-year-old sailor who died Saturday after being washed into the ocean while hiking at a shoreline formation call “Rock Bridge,” just outside Hanauma Bay, as Seaman Andrew Villolovos

Villolovos, who has been in Hawaii since June, was assigned to Navy Information Operations Command and worked at its facilities at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam and Kunia. He was from Toledo, Ohio, and enlisted in the Navy in June 2014. 

Villolovos’ body was recovered in 110 feet of water, with no pulse and not breathing. 

He had been hiking with friends when he was swept into the water about 12:10 p.m. Saturday near  Rock Bridge. 

Rock Bridge, a land formation that looks like a bridge over the water, is off a trail that is blocked at the entrance by a gate with no-trespassing signs.
