Security officers indicted in airport bribery case

An Oahu grand jury indicted four private security officers and traffic control officers today for allegedly taking bribes from taxi and shuttle drivers at the Honolulu Airport.
“Securitas employees Ruben Corpuz Alonzo, Ranie A. Ilagan, Gay Manicia Gatchalian and Euriphides Magalang allegedly solicited and accepted more than $3,o00 in monetary payments from tax and shuttle drivers at the airport,” Deputy Attorney General Albert Cook said in a news release.
“In exchange the defendants provided customers to these drivers and allowed the drivers to circumvent the rules and regulations relating to taxi and shuttle rivers and ground transportation at the Honolulu International Airport.”
The FBI and special agent investigators at the Attorney General’s office conducted a months-long undercover investigation into the case after taxi drivers complained certain officers at the airport were taking bribes and showing favoritism to those who paid, Chin said.
The Securitas workers were indicted for bribery, a Class B felony punishable by up to 10 years’ imprisonment and $25,000 in fines.

Last time I checked, a lower-case letter O was not a substitute for a zero, and I don’t know how you drive a “tax” but apparently that’s what they do at the airport!

Very interesting. Securitas employs lots of Filipinos to work the airport. They had the contract for almost 10 years. They also provide security for secure area of the airport. Makes me what else they did. A few years ago Senator Donna Kim called the State airport adminstrator on the carpet for taking state funds and hiring a contractor without going through the proper bidding process, involved Securitas. There also was a rumor at the airport that some of the young filipinas were providing sexual favors to supervisors for more work hours and premium posts…. rumor only but now I wonder.

1. Suggesting that people committed crimes at the airport because of their race is personal, uncalled for and unsubstantiated — not to mention, racist.
2. Ditto for spreading rumors that young women were prostituting themselves at the airport because of their race.
Yes, I’ve got a personal problem with racists. But, I’d call my response neither uncalled for nor unsubstantiated.
They also just got another 5 years.
Security airport jobs are at the bottom of food chain, as far as pay goes. Not surprised by this at all.
No surprise – we need David Ige to clean the whole dot up top to bottom…not hire same old faces who ran things into ground over years and who like status quo with no accountability
