Two victories did nothing to change Hawaii’s ranking in the AVCA Division I-II Men’s Volleyball Top 15, with the Rainbow Warriors staying at No. 5 in the poll released Monday.
Hawaii (8-1, 3-1 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation) takes a 16-match home winning streak into Friday’s match with No. 1 UCLA (10-0, 6-0) at the Stan Sheriff Center. The Bruins remained a unanimous top choice, receiving all 20 first-place votes.
Long Beach State (7-2, 4-2) stayed at No. 2, followed by Brigham Young (6-2, 4-2) and Loyola-Chicago (5-2). Stanford (7-1, 6-1) remained at No. 6 and Ohio State (7-2) at No. 7.
Penn State (5-2) moved from a tie for ninth to 8, Pepperdine (5-2, 4-2) dropped a spot from No. 8 and UC Santa Barbara (6-3, 4-2) moved one place to No. 10.
Noa will stay and play for UH
The top two wide receivers in the state this past season are staying home for college.
Kamehameha’s Kumoku Noa announced on Twitter on Monday night that he will stay home and play for Hawaii, joining Mililani’s Kalakaua Timoteo at UH. Both receivers were named to the Honolulu Star-Advertiser All-State first team in December.
Azusa Pacific edges Hawaii Pacific
Azusa Pacific’s Allison Greene scored on a layup with 0.3 seconds left, escaping with a victory over the Hawaii Pacific’s women’s basketball team 57-55. The Sharks are now 12-8, 9-4 PacWest, while the Cougars jump to 18-3, 12-1.

Hawaii Hilo men defeat Dominican
Hawaii Hilo’s men’s basketball team capped a 6-0 run in the final two minutes led by Parker Farris to knock off Dominican University 86-76.

Chaminade dominates Holy Names
Rohndell Goodwin had a game-high 22 points to help the Chaminade men’s basketball team rout Holy Names University 114-83.

Entries open for 41st Molokai Challenge
The 41st Maui Jim Molokai Challenge, a 32-mile paddling event from Kaluakoi Beach, Molokai, to Maunalua Bay, Oahu, is scheduled for May 29.
The divisions are stand-up and prone paddleboard, OC-1 and surfski. The staggered starts begin at 7:50 a.m. Entry forms are available at kanakaikai.com.
The week after the channel race is the Maui Jim Oceanfest, June 4-5, at Ka’anapali Beach, Maui. Competitors will participate in a multi-discipline sprint race format comprised of swimming, surfski, OC-1, stand-up and prone paddleboard.
Track gold in 2 states for Barry
Retired ‘Iolani boys soccer coach Bob Barry took first place in his 75-79 age group at both the Alaska State Games and Idaho State Games. He also finished second at the Washington State Games and fifth at the National Senior Games.
Barry has qualified for The Masters Classic at the University of Oregon on April 24.
Seasider men lose to Eagles
The BYU-Hawaii men’s basketball team lost 87-65 to Concordia University Irvine in Irvine, Calif. The Seasiders fall to 12-7, 9-5 PacWest, while the Eagles improve to 19-3, 12-2.
