The third-ranked Hawaii Pacific men’s tennis team swept No. 35 Ferris State 5-0 in Friday’s semifinals of the NCAA Division II Championship in Denver.
HPU won all three doubles matches and got singles wins from Thibaud Berland and Torben Otto. The Sharks (20-3) face No. 1 St. Leo (27-1) in today’s championship. HPU lost in the last two championship finals.
Top-ranked BYU-Hawaii held off No. 2 St. Leo 5-3 in the women’s semifinals. The Seasiders led 4-1 in the dual match before St. Leo won two singles matches to close to 4-3. Karen Liu rallied for a 6-4, 1-6, 6-2 win over Isabella Robbiani at No. 2 singles to clinch the win for BYUH (25-0).
The Seasiders face No. 3 Armstrong Atlantic (31-1) in the championship. Armstrong advanced with a 5-0 win over No. 7 HPU 5-0. The Sharks finish the season 18-6.
