Makiki woman released in attempted murder case

Police released a 25-year-old Makiki woman this morning after she allegedly tried to run over a 66-year-old man whom she claimed had sexually assaulted her.

The woman was released after the man withdrew the attempted murder complaint, said Sarah Yoro, Honolulu Police Department spokeswoman.

Yoro said police are still investigating the second-degree sexual assault complaint. She added the woman and the man know each other.

The woman was arrested about 4:30 a.m. Sunday for investigation of second-degree attempted murder after she tried to run over the man with her car in front of 1222 S. King St. in Makiki, police said.

The victim was taken to the Queen’s Medical Center in serious condition after the incident, but his condition was later upgraded, police said.

The woman apparently reported the sex assault when she was apprehended by police.
