CRIMESTOPPERS HONOLULU

Dae Han Moon, 20, is wanted by police for second-degree attempted murder.

CrimeStoppers and Honolulu police are seeking the public’s help in locating a man wanted for attempted murder in connection with a shooting at Ala Moana Center that critically injured a 20-year-old man.

Police identified the suspect as Dae Han Moon, 20, also known as Daehan Moon.

At about 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the fifth-level parking lot on the Ewa side of the shopping center, Moon and his friends got into an argument with the victim and his friends. Police said the argument intensified and Moon allegedly grabbed a firearm from his vehicle and shot the victim.

He and his friends fled the scene before police arrived.

Emergency Medical Services reported the victim suffered a gunshot wound to the back of his head. Paramedics administered advanced life support before transporting him to a trauma hospital in critical condition.

Earlier this month, prosecutors charged Moon after he allegedly struck a police vehicle he was operating when he attempted to flee from officers.

At about 1:30 a.m. on Dec. 5, patrol officers responded to a report of suspicious activity at an apartment building on Kaheka Street. When police arrived, Moon allegedly entered a vehicle and attempted to flee but struck a police vehicle and rock wall.

He then fled on foot but was apprehended by officers shortly after. Police said a firearm was found on the driver’s seat of the vehicle.

Moon was charged with unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle and a related firearms charge. He posted bail on Dec. 7. On Dec. 19, Moon pleaded not guilty to the charges at Circuit Court, according to court records.

Judge Colette Garibaldi prohibited him from possessing any firearms and set his trial for the week of Feb. 21.

Moon has a criminal record of driving under the influence of drugs.

He is described as 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighing 200 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.

Anyone with information on Moon’s whereabouts is urged to call CrimeStoppers at 955-8300.

How cold blooded would you have to be to shoot another person in the back of the head. This is someone’s good son gone bad. If the victim dies, punishment after conviction should be an eye for an eye.

This squirt is as good as caught. His face is all over the news. Somebody will recognize him and it’ll be curtains for him. Let’s just hope the justice system does its job.

He rammed a police car and had a firearm and still was allowed bail?….incredible since he already had a previous criminal history….and now he shot someone execution style…he needs to be put away if he’s apprehended or put down if he resists….

“prosecutors charged Moon after he allegedly struck a police vehicle he was operating when he attempted to flee from officers.”

C’mon SA where is the editing man? Moon was not operating the police vehicle. The vehicle he was operating struck a police vehicle. Sheesh.

And yes, guess you can attack the police with your car, leave a firearm on the seat of your car and still get out of jail free. No wonder this other kid is brain dead. Our justice system is brain dead too.

Hopefully the next guy police arrest with an illegal firearm and endangering police officers, they post a higher bail. I see a lawsuit on this easy pass jail ticket to commit more crimes crime. Only way out for this sad story is to find the guy hanging in a tree somewhere to save tax payers millions in room and board.

The time is now for a “three strikes and you’re out” law. Life, no parole. Prison overcrowding? 6 to a cell. Problem solved.

HPD cannot catch this guy because there too busy investigating mailbox thefts. Way to go chief.

  19. Publicbraddah says:

So, in his previous arrest, a gun was found in his vehicle. Assuming that gun is now in police custody, how did he get this most recent gun to shoot the victim. Is HPD actively looking for whoever provided him with his guns? It seems the criminal element has easier access to guns that law abiding citizens.
